Celebrating Nissan’s Impact in Britain
Designed. Built. Loved. By Britain.
Nissan’s relationship with Britain extends far beyond the cars seen on our roads. For four decades, British designers, engineers, manufacturing teams and dealerships have helped shape the Nissan vehicles enjoyed by millions of motorists.
The new Nissan by Britain campaign celebrates this remarkable partnership and the people behind it. Its message is simple: Nissan isn’t just made in Britain — it’s made by Britain.
Four decades of British innovation
Since production began in Sunderland in 1986, Nissan has become a significant part of the UK automotive industry.
More than 11 million vehicles have been produced at the Sunderland plant, which now employs over 6,000 people and supports thousands of additional jobs throughout the country. Today, a new Nissan can roll off its production line approximately every two minutes.
However, Nissan’s British story begins long before a vehicle reaches the factory.
At Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, British-based designers help create the vehicles of tomorrow. Meanwhile, Nissan’s Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield is at the heart of the company’s engineering and innovation in the UK.
Together, these facilities contribute to every stage of the process — from the earliest design ideas and technical development to manufacturing and the finished cars arriving at dealerships like ours.
Cars that have become part of British life
Nissan has created some of the most recognisable and best-loved vehicles on Britain’s roads.
The Qashqai helped to redefine the family-car market and establish the crossover as one of the country’s most popular vehicle types. Alongside it, the distinctive Nissan Juke has become another familiar sight in towns and cities throughout Britain.
The MICRA has been part of British motoring life for more than 40 years, serving as a first car, trusted commuter and dependable family runaround for generations of drivers. Now reinvented as an all-electric hatchback, the All-New MICRA begins an exciting new chapter for one of Nissan’s most familiar names.
Britain also played an important part in Nissan’s electric journey. The pioneering Nissan LEAF helped bring electric motoring to a mass-market audience and demonstrated how British engineering and manufacturing could contribute to a more sustainable a
utomotive future.
From the MICRA, Juke and Qashqai to the latest generation of electric Nissan vehicles, almost everyone has a Nissan story.
Crayford & Abbs and Nissan
Crayford & Abbs has proudly represented Nissan for 24 years, while company founder Kevin Abbs’ experience with the brand stretches back more than three decades.
During that time, we have seen Nissan continue to evolve while remaining an important part of everyday motoring in Britain. We’re proud to represent the brand here in North Norfolk and to help local motorists discover its latest models, technologies and innovations.
As Nissan looks towards its next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles, its connection with Britain remains as important as ever.
